For several decades Jean-Louis Fenouil and Papick Bracco have been active players in 'Marseille climbing'. Thanks to their perfect knowledge of the Calanques and Cap Canaille, these two passionate climbers and setters have combined their talents as photographers and watercolourists to create an original work, as artistic as it is technical. They made the personal choice to select 157 major routes and crossings of all levels, which translate so well the 'Spirit of Calanques' which is dear to them. They guide us through 50 different sectors of Marseille and La Ciotat, describing length after length of these almost 20,000 m of sea climbing.

The Calanques massif is an uninterrupted succession of peaks, faces, bare rocks, and sheer cliffs overlooking the omnipresent sea. Nestled between the metropolis of Marseilles to the northwest, and the port of Cassis then La Ciotat to the southeast, this exceptional natural space became a National Park in April 2012. From the very beginning of the 20th century, this unique concentration of limestone cliffs close to the sea, has attracted climbers from all regions.

The 100 unpublished photos, often full-page, and the 50 watercolors where the routes are traced as in a race book, make this collection an essential book.
